Deborah’s life took a dramatic turn in 2014 when she survived a horrific acid attack that temporarily blinded her and forced her to abandon her bakery business. Before she got attacked, Deborah worked at Sheraton Kampala Hotel for 10 years, later resigned and opened her own Restaurant and Bakery business. Despite all challenges, including undergoing 27 surgeries of which most were reconstructive, Deborah did not lose the passion for baking and decorating. 

Deborah Jane will remain Thankful to resettlement Agencies that have rescued human beings suffering persecution around the world. Jane came to The USA in 2016, her first job was with Jan Kish of La Petite Fleur. Her home business inspired Deborah, that she believed one day her Bakery business will rise again. Then, got a job with the  Kroger retail company since 2017 to date. Since 2019, Debby’s kitchen has been busy baking and decorating cakes  for friends and friends of friends. 

Early 2024, Debby’s Bakery opens up to the public to serve the  Columbus community. As another way of giving back, Deborah plans periodic bakery workshops to assist immigrants and American interested in a career in Bakery.

 Her inspiring story was featured in the award-winning Netflix documentary “Immigration Nation,” highlighting her relentless fight to reunite with her four children in the U.S.
