Our Story

A Journey of Resilience and Flavor

Founded in 2019 in the heart of Columbus, Ohio, Debby's Bakery is more than just a place for sweets—it is a testament to the power of the human spirit.

Deborah Jane's culinary journey began with a decade of mastery at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel before she launched her own successful restaurant and bakery. However, in 2014, her life took a dramatic turn. After surviving a horrific life-altering attack, Deborah underwent 27 reconstructive surgeries. Despite years of recovery, she never lost her vision for baking or her passion for decorating.

A New Chapter in America

After resettling in 2016, Deborah’s journey to reunite with her family was featured in Netflix’s Immigration Nation. What began as baking for neighbors in 2019 grew into a public bakery by 2024.

Baking with Purpose

Debby’s Bakery is Deborah’s way of giving back to the community that welcomed her. Today, she hosts workshops to mentor fellow immigrants and aspiring bakers, sharing the skills that gave her a second chance. When you enjoy a treat from Debby’s, you aren’t just tasting a recipe—you’re sharing in a story of rebirth and a mother’s relentless love.
